Company History

Hello, I am Rino Romano and I live in Sorrento, Italy, a small quaint town in the Amalfi Coast area. With my family we have built up this company that was created in 1998 because we have a strong passion to show the history, culture, that this country has handed down from generation to generation to myself and to all my family.
 

I want to tell you a little bit about myself, so you can see where my roots lie and who I am as a person, not just the name on a request or correspondence.
 
My inspiration to start up my own business was my grandfather who really was a great person with so much ambition, but was never able to totally full fill what he wanted to do in life... but gave my father a better start in life.

My grandfather Gennaro Romano (I was named s after him) liked to talk about the hardships he suffered, especially during the 2nd world war when he was recruited by the Italian Army as so many young men from all over the world. He said those memories lie profoundly in his soul.
Going through an old photo album grandpa’s photo’s of the period spent as a soldier and the year after the war ended - the photos marked from being touched so many times - showed the great loss of hope and the poverty when he returned back home. He decided, like so many Italians, it was time for a new beginning to try his fortune in America.
In that period America was like a breath of fresh air (as Naples was devasted by the bombs) and there was alot of famine (this was to last at least a couple of years after 1945).
 
A new start with a few lira’s in his pockets. He took the ship from Naples dock to New York:
he always told me that now days to visit America go now it’s simple on a plane you are there in 7 hours! He told me of the terrible journey on the ship from the port of Naples, it was a cargo container with people from all over Europe, not just Italy, and it really scared him.
But he wanted and needed a change and to arrive in that land which for him was synonymous of freedom.
He only stayed a couple of months because he was so home sick but that brief stay in America gave him something very special to take back that we all can have hope in a better future whether we live in America, Australia / Germany / Canada, he took this back home with him and passed this hope and to my father and onto me that if we work hard and dedicate our efforts we can succeed.
 
As I promised grandpa, I visited New York in 1988, flew and landed in NewYork and... it all came back the photos of grandpa with the Brooklyn bridge behind him, and the dock with all those people leaving the ship like it was in the 1900’s, the statue of liberty was what everyone looked for... great emotion! And the strong bond that America has with my country, Italy, I decided then that I wanted to realize something where I could explain the history and culture of ancient Italy to connect Italy with Americans, Canadians and many other countries and cultures like Israel, England, Australia, Brazil, where a lot of my grandpa friends emigrated to after the war.
 
So this has become a great adventure for me and Italy Limousine has grown with the help of You that I hope you from all over this very beautiful world and where I can show you my little angle of this world enjoy Italy with me.
